Andrew Jackson was born the youngest son of two Scots-Irish immigrants, who came across the Atlantic to try their fortunes on American shores. Andrew never came to know his father, as three weeks before Jackson’s 1767 birth, he died at the age of twenty-nine after sustaining an injury from carrying a log. But Jackson still had the company of his mother and two elder brothers. For a time, he received a little education at a local school, but by the age of ten, the American Revolutionary War was underway. Seeking to support his country, he enlisted alongside his brothers as a courier to deliver messages across the battlefield, as using young boys as messengers was the common wartime communication system of the day. It wasn’t long before he†¦show more content†¦On this plantation, Jackson had at least a dozen or more slaves at any given time and--towards his later years--a few hundred that would work his fields for him. Following years saw the future president tak e part in many wars, starting with the War of 1812. In this confrontation again with Britain, Jackson’s tough tactics and courage led his men to refer to him by the nickname â€Å"Old Hickory.† He rose to great prominence in the States by his heroic leadership during the Battle of New Orleans, in which he and his soldiers sustained only one-twentieth of the casualties inflicted on the British, despite Jackson beginning the battle with only three-fourths the men. Artistic renderings of the victory spread across the country at a rapid pace, placing Jackson at the head of the battle against terrible odds. Shortly afterwards, the First Seminole War broke out, and Jackson again found himself in the national spotlight. After President James Monroe commanded the famous general to go to Georgia combat the Seminoles, as well as ensure that freed slaves did not flee to Florida. Jackson took this a step further and overtook Florida, running its current claimants, the Spanish, out and declaring it property of the United States. After the war was over, he was titled the military governor of Florida, a job which lasted almost a year before he was nominated for presidency. Describe the background of Mr. Bundy and a short synopsis of his crimes Theodore Robert Cowell was born to Mother Eleanor Louise Cowell at Elizabeth Lund home for Unwed Mothers in Burlington, Vermont. Ted’s Mother was single at the time she conceived him, and during that time period it was immoral to be a single mother so her parents took care of Ted. He was under the impression that they were his parents and his Biological mother was his older sister, but in reality they were his grandparents. There was a rumor that Ted Bundy s Grandfather could be his biological father but that theory was never tested and Bundy s Father is still unknown. In 1968 he re-enrolled at the University of Washington to Major in Psychology. Bundy was attending school with Elizabeth Kloepfer; a divorced secretary with a child from a previous marriage. Ted graduated in 1972 from the University of Washington with a degree in psychology. Fall of 1973 he enrolled in law school at the University of Puget Sound; he did poorly and dropped out in the spring of 1974. Ted had relationships going with two women at this time and neither of them knew the other. He was dating Elizabeth but he was engaged to Stephanie Brooks whom he had gotten back together with while at UW. After Brooks broke off the engagement is when many young women started to disappear in the Pacific Northwest. Bundy murdered many women but his first known murder was in 1974 when he was 27 years old. Once came these two huge, furry guys in gorilla suits, bolting towards the crowds of people, baring their pearl white, pointed teeth.Almost every one of the children darted back to their cackling parents’ arms. I have to admit, I was a little wary of them also. Then, the enormous red and white fire trucks came wailing right behind the gorillas, everyone enjoyed the courageous firefighters. Later, you could hear the clopping of the regal horses and adorable ponies. Along with the soft animals came the reeking stench of them too, but of course you would only realize the putrid smell once the furry friends continued trotting past you.To wrap up the everlasting parade were the pooper scoopers. By the time they had finished cleaning up the horse mess; a few kids (and even some foolish adults) had the wonderful experience of plodding in horse feces. As we were all departing our perfect locations, we were all discussing with glee, the superb floats we had just witnessed. I loved seeing the jovial and exuberant faces the parade goers had plastered across their faces. Just to think all of these events will repeat the following year.
